The reason why people protest is because Taiwan is trying to become a democracy, and the election was far from democratic. As you know, Taiwan is notorious for having corrupt government. Things that are unheard of here, such as staged assassinations, etc. actually could happen over in Taiwan.
People don't necessarily want the KMT to win. They just want a fair election.
Most of my family is pro-KMT. My grandfather fought on the KMT side in the 40's in their army. He fled to Burma after their defeat to the Communists.
The KMT believe that China and Taiwan are one; they believe that reunification is just a formality. The DPP believe that Taiwan is an independent country and are willing to fight for it if they need to. I don't agree with either.
I think the KMT should declare war on China and go to war like they did in the 40's and try to defeat Communism. If that was their platform, I would support them.
